I work with something I call "third space" and that the philosopher Hannah Arendt called the "in-between." For creative work, we want the in-between space to open up, because this is the place where new creative possibilities reveal themselves. It's the place where connections and insights happen, and it's also the place where beauty lives. Working with third space requires courage and a willingness to be vulnerable, but in our vulnerability lies our power and our creative voice. My focus during the past 25+ years has been to understand how to enter, navigate and embrace that creative state most effectively.

In individual sessions, I often focus on metaphor and image as a way of knowing because in the end, being able to see the gift or potential in a given situation is what is ultimately transformative. I've written two books and participated in academic research in the areas of adult learning, depth psychology, and creativity, all of which provide a solid foundation for my work with third space. But ultimately, these sessions are about creating space for something greater to come through. The work, like all truly creative work, is not about me and I (and my clients) are often surprised by the results.
